About this artwork
Dan Yeffet, founder of the Paris-based design studio JellyLab, collaborated with Materialise to create Polyvase—an ultramodern vase made with rapid prototyping technology. This computer-controlled process, which can best be described as three-dimensional printing, allows for design freedom far beyond the capacity of traditional manufacturing processes, literally building the object one tiny piece at a time. Both a sculpture and a functional object, this faceted, egg-shaped vase evokes elements of architectural design; structured triangle-shaped holes form the body of the vase and allow light to peek through. Yeffet is highly interested in rapid prototyping as a methodology and has designed a number of pieces for Materialise utilizing this cutting-edge manufacturing technique.
