- The Russian maiden, having fallen into captivity, Was ordered about like a slave by the despicable Prussian. He tormented her pitilessly, amused himself at will, With the maiden’s groans, and the bitter tears. We know now the cost and meaning Of flattering words, and festive meetings. It is clear without words: “in sheep’s clothing The wolf is hiding his powerless wrath.”
