About this artwork
Originally created for the Café Kunsthalle in Munich and later made available to the consumer market, Pritzker Prize–winning architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron’s Jingzi Suspension Light Fixture explores the interplay of light and material as a larger spatial concept. The light is activated by touch, with an inviting surface of smooth, flexible silicone tubing that houses all electrical components. The lamp’s organic shape and silicone “skin” diffuse the light, subtly altering the viewer’s perception of the surrounding space through the play of soft, atmospheric light.
