About this artwork

Showcasing its diverse talents—in architecture and urban design—in this model for a visitor center, UrbanLab created a space that made the existing building’s interior a microcosm of the greater Chicago area. The interior of the model is conceived as an inverted diorama; however, the notion of a diorama takes on a new meaning at the building’s bulging street facade, which serves as a viewing platform for the city. Urbanlab proposed an elegantly folded and bent glass curtain wall that directs the attention of individuals toward views of actual buildings and the urban landscape beyond.
