About this artwork

This haori is patterned with traditional kuruma (wheel) motifs, associated with the Heian-period (794–1185) carts used by the nobility. The rendering of the overlapping wheels and the vibrant, saturated colors give the traditional motif a modern feel of mechanization and industry.
