About this artwork

Jeanne Gang’s mixed-media model for the facade of a proposed Chicago visitor center showcases her interest in tactility. Clad with a series of sequinlike photovoltaic modules hung from a lightweight wire structure, the proposed facade explores the notion of seriality, transposing an abstract vocabulary of decorative patterning onto a functional device. The solar modules enhance the building’s sustainability while also providing it with a powerful graphic identity from the street.
