About this artwork
Barbara Rossi focused part of her graduate studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) on printmaking, becoming Vera Berdich’s studio assistant and, eventually, her sabbatical replacement instructor. Concentrating on organic images that derived from doodles, Rossi evolved her prints into complex quilts, using squares printed from her etching plates. These seminal works were made during her first classes with Berdich. In 1971 Rossi took a teaching position at SAIC, a post she held until she retired in 2016.
