About this artwork
Born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, Ivan Albright studied at the School of the Art Institute. Making precise medical drawings while serving with an Army medical unit during World War I, he developed a meticulous realism that was particularly effective when applied to themes of mortality and the fleeting nature of physical beauty, as in this lithograph and the related painting, also in the Art Institute’s collection.
