About this artwork

Onchi Kōshirō produced many works titled, like this one, with a variation on Lyric. He explained this choice for one series of prints by saying, “Art is not something that can be grasped by the mind, it is understood by the heart … [and] I will call this kind of work a ‘lyric.’” The muted palette of this particular work conveys melancholy while the angular black shapes and layered gray forms hint at movement.
