On July 23, 1993, James Jordan, father of basketball superstar Michael Jordan, was driving home from the funeral of a friend when he pulled off the road onto this shoulder to take a nap. Ten days later, his body was found in a creek in South Carolina. Two teenagers were charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. They were sentenced to life in prison.
