About this artwork
Shinagawa Takumi was an early experimenter with the expressive power of abstraction and a limited, yet vibrant, color palette. He rarely represented Buddhist imagery in his work, but this print from the 1940s is an exception. Here he used bright green for a sculpture that is made of gray stone. The bold coloring gives the sense of coming upon ruins in a dense forest.
