About this artwork

The title of this print refers to Cape Hatteras along the North Carolina coast, where Johns made frequent trips during the early 1960s. In all of the artist’s work during these years, he made frequent use of body imprints, especially his hands and arm, which is extended here as a surrogate for the drawing implement.
