About this artwork
Charles Moore’s drawing features an atmospheric evocation of one of the most celebrated entries to the original 1922 competition: the second-place winner, designed by Eliel Saarinen. Moore emphasizes the strong vertical lines of Saarinen’s proposal with a beam of light extending from the building’s glowing core. The architect used a night setting reminiscent of the dramatic architectural renderings of the 1920s and ’30s.
