More Photoshop Practice:DOWNLOAD ZIP FILE OF SOURCE IMAGERY: fastfood_tutorial2.zip

DIRECTIONS: Before starting this tutorial with your instructor, make a
folder titled "yourname_Day2tutorials" on the desktop. Source imagery
is in the folder you downloaded.

1) 1) Open ipod.gif. Choose the crop tool (C key) to crop the image down to just the lime rectangle. Using the eyedropper tool (I key), select the green and move to the background color swatch using the toggle arrow. Use the Lasso tool/delete key to remove all text. Save for Web as a GIF file in your folder.

2) Open monsanto.jpg. Select a fixed size rectangular marquee (M key) of 800 x 480 pixels and crop (Image>Crop). Using a mix of the rectangular marquee, lasso, and clone tool, remove all the text from this image except for the word Imagine. Save for Web as a JPG image of maximum quality in your folder as monsanto_final.jpg.

3) Open ronald.gif. Select a fixed size rectangular marquee (M key) of 640 x 480 pixels and crop (Image>Crop). Save as ronaldmod.gif in your folder but do not close the image file.

4) Using the eyedropper tool (I key), select the dark blue that appears in the white text bubble near Ronald. Select the entire image area (Select>All) and stroke with a 2 pixel border (Edit>Stroke). Choose File>Save.

5) Choose the lasso tool, select the blue text in the white balloon. Make sure white is selected as your background color swatch. Press the Delete Key to erase the text. Choose File>Save.

6) Choose the Text tool (T key). Make sure that the foreground color swatch still shows the dark blue of the stroke color. Click in the white balloon, and type:

Hey, you found my
PlayBrainwashingPlace!
Pick a fun brand
from the menu.

Choose a 10 or 11 point font like Sand, Marker Felt, or Kidprint to mimic the font style you deleted. The demo shows a Gill Sans Italic at 14 point.

7) Now you are going to modify the text that currently reads: McMagic, Clowning With Color, and Fun Fact Quiz. Make the new text BEFORE you delete the old. Choose the text tool with a white Courier, bold, 18 point font and type McLard.

Add a bit of a curve. Choose the warped text tool, select an Arc style +10 bend.

8) From the Layer Style palette choose a 2 pixel red "outside" stroke for the letters (Hex color #FF0000).

9) From the Layer Style palette choose a black drop shadow, 30 degree angle, 100% opacity, 5 pixel distance, 11% spread and a size of 1 pixel.

10) Repeat this process and add two new layers, Clowning with Cholesterol, and Fun Fat Quiz. You can shorten this process by duplicating the first layer two times and rewriting the text. (NOTE: Demo shows 18 point leading between text layers that have two lines of text. You set leading in the Character Palette).

11) Using the move tool, select each new text layer and position atop the old text. Turn visibility of the new layers off by clicking off of the "eye" icons in the Layers palette.

12) Select the background layer. Using the eyedropper tool, select the baby blue of the background color. Move this color to the background color swatch. Now select the lasso tool and begin selecting the old text and deleting. When all the old text is deleted you can turn visibility back on for your new layers.

13) Use the eyedropper tool to select the mustard yellow color in the Fun Fact popup. Use the lasso tool to select the red text "I have a favorite..." and delete to clear the panel for new text.

14) Add an alarming fact now about fat and cholesterol consumption in the US. There are some interesting facts here. Cut and paste from the web site. The demo shows a 12 point red Gill Sans font left justified.
