May 2009 Adventures in New York

Flo, Ebby and Sue successfully worked to receive a grant from the Astraea Foundation. The money went go to upgrading the infrastructure and hiring a shop manager for a "woman run" wood shop at the art center FOSAJ. We collected donated tools and Sue traveled to Haiti to train some of the artists in tool safety and maintenance. (This project was being realized when the earthquake struck. The majority of the HAAE are continuing to work with Astraea in hopes of finding a place for this and
more to happen again. )

For the first time in a long time the HAAE collaborators were able to be in the same space. Ebby was there to screen a short film, "Miss Body Plastik" at the Alliance Francais. Flo was in New York working on procuring the grant from the Astraea Foundation. Kara and Sue decided to travel to New York to support their friends and get in some solid hang out time.

While in New York in May Bayard and Ebby were invited to be apart of the production crew for a film centering on Haitian imigration and refugies. The film is still currently in production.
