This is a video performance piece I did for an assignment in my 4D Core Studio class. 2-8-08
Artist Statement for Video Performance Project
For my performance using video, I choose to use the video alone as documentation, and show it as the actual piece itself. What I am interested in is the time and places that exist between sleeping and waking, dreams, and what it is like to be trapped with in this world. The world of the body and what we deem consciousness becoming paralyzed, while the world of the subconscious and consciousness flow in and out amongst those of the day and those of the night. How they inner mingle and blend which makes it difficult to distinguish one from the other. Another theme is how this state of experiencing the world, with Narcolepsy it is a struggle. Essentially fighting against part of myself, my body that I cannot completely control. My body and mind at times fall at the mercy of the will of the dormant monster that lurks with in me. I cannot completely control this aspect of myself, the physical limitations that create the space in between. There is no real way of fixing the problem. The heaviness of fatigue that alters me and the body that over powers my will, remains at mercy to the creature that swims in me, waiting to come out and distort reality, as I know it. There is no definite reality. I made the hats that I am wearing.
This is currently finished for the class. But I may work on editing this more.
