PERF 3001
Time Design/Multimedia
This course explores graphic and photographic progressions within the
multi-image projection framework, emphasizing 35mm transparency and

of the media. This course is required for any student intending to use
the technical facilities in the booth of the performance space.

and theoretical framework by which to critique and assess their own
performance work done in class.
PERF 3005
Experimental Theater Workshop
This course investigates the artist’s approach to theater, beginning
with image, sound, and movement, as well as text. The workshop explores
forms of theater that are related to other media, including film, music,
painting, and sculpture that grew out of Futurist, Bauhaus, Surrealist,
and postmodern aesthetics.

This workshop explores rituals, myth, symbols, dreams, fantasies, and
memories through basic performance skills.

T’ai Chi II
The basic slow form will be completed and perfected through correction
and further practice, then extended to the classical 108-movement long
form. This will reinforce all the T’ai Chi principles and skills
including relaxation, flexibility, tranquility, continuity, and sensitivity.
This form is learned at a moderate speed, but is later performed as
an aerobic exercise. Prerequisite: PERF 1001
PERF 3008
Hatha Yoga II
This course continues the classical and contemporary yoga postures,
breath awareness exercises, concentration techniques, systematic deep
relaxation, and meditation. It is understood that the students practice
on their own, thereby achieving an independent level of expertise. Prerequisite:
PERF 1000
PERF 3010
Public Persona/Private Self
Students present monologues, dialogues, readings, lectures, demonstrations,
stories, and songs with emphasis on verbal and nonverbal communication
techniques. The intent is to become comfortable and secure in the presentation
of “self.”
PERF 3011
Body/Mind Potential
In this seminar, students experience the interdependence of mind and
body, actively participating and exploring their physical limitations,
while learning to cultivate mindfulness. The emphasis is on the maintenance
of physical health and fitness, motor skill acquisition, prevention
of injury, and discussion of environmental and social factors impacting
the artist.
PERF 3012
Performance Documentation and Transformation
This class explores the various strategies involved in the process of
documenting performance art. Students will create a performance work,
and then document it in several different media, such as photography,
book format, audio, and video. Discussion focuses on how each document
medium represents a translation of the original work. The class includes
practical and valuable information about performance venues and festivals,
and the preparation of proposals and grant applications.
PERF 3020
Performance Installation
This course investigates performative activities as they relate to objects,
site, and installed environments. Students explore ways of activating
found and created environments through the manipulation of such elements
as sound, lighting, projections, and live presence. A broad range of
performance styles, from theatrical modes to happenings and actions,
are investigated. Various approaches to the building of sets, props,
and environmental sculptures for time-based events are also examined.
