2000 Level Performance Course Descriptions
PERF 2000
Expanded Media
This course is required for any student intending to use the technical
facilities in the booth of the performance space. Each student explores
the possible synthesis of various communication media—projection,
film, video, sound, music, body movement, body covering, and spatial
manipulation.
PERF 2001
Performance
Students concentrate on all aspects of performance. This may be done
in a number of ways, using varying techniques, equipment, and philosophies.
Students are encouraged to develop their particular performance sensibilities.
PERF 2002
Voice: Discovery and Production
This course provides students who have had no previous vocal training
with an organic technique of voice production. Through the development
of a personalized warm-up for the voice, the emphasis is on the composition
of vocal/sound performance pieces.
PERF 2004
Acting
Students learn basic acting skills through their involvement in scene
study and production practice. This course is intended for students
whose approach to performance requires theatrical expertise.
PERF 2005
Puppetry and Performance
This course explores the contemporary use of puppetry in performance
and theatre. Western and Asian traditions of puppetry are introduced,
including string and rod. Works range from the toy theatre to shadow
screen, and to installation and the full stage. Students work primarily
in papier-mâché, wood, wire, clay, fabric, and found materials
on individual and/or collaborative projects, exploring the relationship
between text, story, and the movement of the puppet.
PERF 2006
Technical Tools for Performance
This course introduces students to the technical facilities and equipment
in the School’s performance space. The course is designed to provide
a thorough working knowledge of the lighting and sound systems, slide
production and control, projection systems, and basic video documentation.
Successful completion of this course is a prerequisite for use of the
performance space booth (1.5 credit hours).
