Madness
A study of the phenomenon variously referred to as madness, insanity,
or psychosis. Several psychological theories are offered. Case histories
are included and historical, sociological, legal, and philosophical
aspects are examined. Prerequisite: First Year English requirement.

Abnormal Psychology
Patterns of abnormal behavior are defined and explored in the context
of contemporary psychology. Students are introduced to the best current
understanding of the origins and nature of the major varieties of psychopathology.

The Psychology of Death
This course examines the psychological impact of mortality. Questions
include: How does the knowledge of eventual death affect one’s
everyday life? What are the psychological effects of living under the
ever-present threat of nuclear annihilation? Other topics include the
dynamics of human violence; survivor experience and traumatic syndrome;
and healthy versus pathological grieving. Prerequisite: First Year English
requirement.
