FAP 1021
Writing Skills I
This is the first half of a year-long course designed for students who
need guided experience in writing before entering Essay Writing and/or
other Liberal Arts courses. Students are taught the process of writing,
and learn ways by which ideas can be generated, developed, and organized
in writing. Students develop competence and confidence in their skills
through a variety of activities: writing papers; analyzing other students'
writing; and analyzing professional writing.
FAP 1022
Writing Skills II
This course is a continuation of Writing Skills I, a year-long course
designed for students who need guided experience in writing. Students
continue to analyze the work of both student and professional writers
and to learn and apply strategies for developing ideas in writing. Writing
assignments include more demanding forms, such as formal analysis and
argumentation. Research skills are also addressed.
FAP 1023
Reading College Texts I
This is the first half of a year-long course designed to meet the college
students need to extract relevant information from college-level
textbooks. The emphasis of the course is on reading comprehension using
a variety of approaches for analyzing printed material. In addition,
students are taught strategies to facilitate memory and to read actively
rather than passively. As a major project, students write a paper which
synthesizes information read from a number of sources.
FAP 1024
Reading College Texts II
This is the second half of a year-long course designed to meet the college
students need to learn from college-level textbooks. This course
offers students the opportunity to apply more extensively the strategies
learned in Reading College Texts I, as well as to experiment with approaches
to analyzing printed material which conform to their individual learning
styles. As a major project, students write a paper which synthesizes
information read from a number of sources.
