FVNM 5020
Graduate Production Studio

This course is designed to give incoming graduate students an overview of current theoretical concerns as related to independent media as well as a hands-on knowledge of all aspects of video production. Topics covered include identity and the place of the maker; genre and ideology; mass culture, popular culture, and the audience; also, working with performers; lighting and cinematography; the edit; fund raising; expanded production processes such as collaboration; and distribution.


FVNM 5150
Advanced Editing Workshop

An advanced graduate post-production workshop for students working in film or video. Students will present unfinished work in class which will be critiqued, workshopped, used as the basis for demonstrations, etc. This course will provide methods for the organization and structuring of material in short and long-form works, concentrating on practical problem-solving and methods for opening up and closing works. Particular attention will be paid to sound/image relationships, structural continuity/discontinuity, professional practices, and non-traditional working procedures. Prerequisite: MFA 5009 and any 3000 level FVNM course.
