2000 Level Designed Objects Course Descriptions

DES OB 2001
Designed Objects Studio

The realm of designed objects will be studied within the conceptual frameworks of “information,” “environment,” “body” and “event.” Students will be encouraged to work between and across these contexts. Students will be introduced to the roles of the designers of things and systems. Projects will encourage thinking, researching, and making in equal proportions within the context of a studio/seminar setting. Students will be encouraged to respond to the built environment, to collaborate with others, to research ideas and materials, and to understand the impact of production and distribution choices.

DES OB 2025
Furniture Design I

In this course research and inquiry into definitions of objects used for the full range of human activities will expand the definition of furniture. Conceptual, ergonomic, historical, and theoretical methodologies will be used to study human form, activity, and interactivity with scaled forms for the everyday environment. The basis for ideas, concept development, and material explorations will merge traditional with contemporary issues. Process investigations, materials, and construction techniques will be informed by introduction to available shops, fabricating industries, and designers. Students will produce and test conceptual designs.
