1926 Exhibition Studies Space
Wow! Pure Fever, April 15, 2002
Dark Nights event, 1926 Exhibition Studies Space
|
The 1926 Exhibition Studies Space is available for use by graduate
students and faculty within all graduate departments/programs interested
in participating in cross-disciplinary work focusing on the presentation
and interpretation of art works and events. The process of developing
projects for the 1926 Exhibition Studies Space is intended to facilitate
and foster collaborations between and among students, faculty, courses,
and with individuals and organizations outside of the School. Proposals
can be developed directly from class or project work. Students can also
propose projects for the space independently from course work, in response
to a call for proposals that occurs once a semester.
The 1926 Exhibition Studies Space functions differently from many other
exhibition spaces: without a fixed curatorial vision (whether individual
or collective), the varied nature of how each proposal is developed
offers the opportunity to realize radically distinct exhibitions or
events, resulting in a presentation of a diverse range of aesthetics
and concepts.
Operating a gallery space provides an important opportunity for students
to experience all facets and stages of the exhibition process, including
managerial, educational, administrative, preservation, promotional and
curatorial aspects. Students involved in Exhibition Studies coursework
or projects can access the 1926 Exhibition Studies Space in the following
ways:
- Developing exhibitions as course projects (for example, through
the Curatorial Practice course);
- Developing special projects, exhibitions, or other activities also
linked to the Exhibition Studies rubric, but outside the students
program requirements;
- Work at both College Work-Study and Graduate Assistant levels in
the ongoing operation and maintenance of the facility;
- Work with the Roger Brown
Study Collection curator, at both College Work-Study and Intern
levels, on aspects of the Study Collection.
