Le Montage 2002
Friday, April 26, 2002
Led by John Burcher as Chair and Stacey Lefton Glick
and Gary Lee as Co-chairs, the School of the Art Institute
of Chicago welcomed over 350 guests to "Le Montage,"
a black-tie benefit gala hosted by the School's Auxiliary
Board on April 26. The galleries of the Art Institute provided
an elegant backdrop for this progressive event. Guests
were welcomed with a red carpet arrival on Michigan Avenue
and proceeded to the museum's grand staircase to enjoy a
lavish cocktail and hors d'oeuvres reception. The
beautiful and innovative creations of the department of
fashion design were interlaced with performance art which
ranged from a silent movement ensemble to individual performances
by "women in red" each utilizing their own talents
in weaving, dance, comedy, and song. Accompanying
them, the sound department lent a hypnotic beat with drummers,
sound machines, and piano. Multi-media installations
were strategically placed throughout the museum allowing
guests to view works in film, video, and technology. While
witnessing installations of fashion, photography, and performance
art, along with multi-media presentations created by faculty
and students, guests were led through the museum by this
sensational display into Gunsaulus Hall and the Chagall
Windows then onto dinner in the museum's Stock Exhchange
Trading Room.
Ed Paschke, a School alumnus and renowned contemporary
artist, was celebrated as special guest of the evening.
A highlight of the evening was an auction for a portrait
sitting with acclaimed photographer and School alumnus Victor
Skrebneski. A winning bid of $10,500 helped to raise
"Le Montage" proceeds to over $200,000 in support
of the education of artists at the School.
This year's gala, "The Object of Art," will take
place on Saturday, May 3, 2003. |
