162 N. State Residences Open House

More than 400 alumni from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, and as far away as Korea joined faculty, staff and friends of the School on August 22 and 23 to celebrate the opening of the new 162 N. State Street Residences. This facility seamlessly combines the terra cotta clad Butler Building of 1924 with brand new construction. It features state-of-the art accommodations for 491 students, including internet connections, kitchenettes, and ample studio space.

Barb Hrbek and alumnus Zurich Esposito take in the alumni exhibition.

Alumni were able to tour the Floors 15, 16, and 17 of the residences. In addition to visiting student rooms and trying out the furniture (designed by former student Michael Heltzer), guests were able to view an exhibition of alumni work in the Siragusa Studios.

The 162 N. State Street Residences were officially dedicated by Mayor Richard M. Daley on August 30. The residence hall is part of a larger development project which includes the construction of the Gene Siskel Film Center, a two-theater complex which will serve as a showcase for motion picture art in the heart of Chicago's Loop.

Alumnae Hiroko Saito and May Hawfield enjoy themselves in the 17th Floor Solarium Studio.

This world-class facility will open at the end of the year, with an official celebration on March 1, 2001.
