Seen On The Streets of Tucson, Arizona

"Activists in Tucson, Arizona have been placing life-sized cutouts of Maricopa County’s insidiously regressive anti-immigrant law enforcement officials around town on street corners and at intersections, including one of the chief of armed despicability himself, America’s self-described “toughest sheriff” Joe Arpaio, and another of a Border Patrol agent, presumed to depict Nicholas Corbett, who just recently faced a hung trial for the second time after being charged with the murder of Mexican immigrant Francisco Dominguez in January of 2007."

Student arrested after spate of graffiti attacks

A 22-YEAR-OLD Frenchman has been accused of a series of graffiti attacks that have left a city suburb plastered in meaningless tags.

The student was arrested by two hawk-eyed police officers after they spotted a man throwing a can of spray paint over some railings.

He was expected to appear in Cardiff Magistrates’ Court today accused of being responsible for covering a ground floor window with the words “Sheg” and “CIK” in spray paint.

The words – which police say have no meaning – have appeared repeatedly in the ward in recent weeks.

The suspect was spotted by Pc Angela Tchalabi and Pcso David Marvelly just before midnight on Friday, October 31, as they patrolled in Miskin Street, Cathays.

Sergeant Richie Weber, from the Cathays Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Since the beginning of October there has been a marked increase in graffiti in the Cathays area and one noticeable tag has been the words ‘Sheg’ and ‘CIK’.

“We know how much of a concern this is to residents because they tell us at Pact meetings and when we are out on patrol.

“Graffiti is criminal damage which can affect people’s quality of life, increase fear of crime in some areas and reduce pride in a community.

“This will not be tolerated and we work in partnership with the council to remove the graffiti.

“Writing graffiti is a criminal offence and anyone who is caught committing such an offence will be dealt with quickly and efficiently.”

Neighbourhood Policing Teams across Cardiff have been tasked with reducing graffiti and work with Cardiff council to clean or paint over tags.

A catalogue of graffiti tags also assists police to link offenders to other incidents of criminal damage.

A 22-year-old man from Cathays was arrested and a can of green spray paint was seized.
