This proposal is about creating a monument and place for gathering. The idea is to makes a statement about what a "park" is and how it is defined in an urban context. This proposal is about making a common space for gathering, playing, watching, praying. It is an object that is sculptural, monumental, and serves as a symbol for DuSable, as well as creating a gateway to the north and south sides of Chicago along Lake Shore Drive. The monument has activity platforms which frame views of the city, Navy Pier and the waterfront areas to the south. The piece will stand above the site, a commentary on it's current radioactive contamination. The monument will use light and water along with the circulation of visitors to create a sculptural piece that is constantly changing and reflecting movement, much like the city itself.
