The Teacher Institute in Contemporary Art was conceived with a simple thought in mind; to allow experienced, dedicated high school art teachers to get back to the studio in a peer group environment together with leading thinkers, writers, and practitioners in the visual arts. For over 20 years, our school has offered an intensive summer study experience for high school students and, from the many discussions with their high school teachers over the years, we realized that many of these educators were interested in a similarly intensive studio experience. Recognizing that many similar studio-intensive dedicated art teachers are already well-versed in pedagogy, we created an experience where teachers could return to their beginnings in art practice.
What are we providing? A chance to return to your beginnings in art and rediscover your creative side, while at the same time accessing and participating in the current dialogues in art. All at no cost to you or your school!
After participating in our Institutes, many teachers have shared with feelings of renewed vigor and enthusiasm for returning to their classrooms. Some of their comments are posted on this web site. Generally, their first thoughts were not only about the Institutes' influence on their own work, but also how eager they were to share their thoughts and experiences with their students.
As you study the descriptions of these Institutes, you will see that the schedules are full, the topics are challenging, and, together with the artists and fellow teachers you will meet, the total environment will be inspiring and invigorating. I hope you take time to study what we have to offer and decide to apply. Join us.
