A timid young Greek opera fan ventures to Italy for the first time in pursuit of his favorite star and quickly becomes the naïve catalyst for a series of comic adventures. Colorful Roman vistas give this entertaining road movie some of the flair of a travelogue as our man gets robbed, is arrested for indecency, finds himself committed to an institution, accidentally falls in with drug dealers, becomes an American girl’s boy-toy, and hops a freight--and that’s all just the set-up. Stranger than fiction scenarios play out in this bizarre documentary when a small-town mayor takes the future into his hands by attempting to hook up some of the town’s substantial aging bachelor population with willing brides. A trek en masse to a Russian “sister city” yields lively prospects, and at least one romance looks to be heading down the aisle. But all bets are off when the ladies pay a return visit to the snoozy burg where marriage promises to be a life sentence. In Greek and Russian with English subtitles.
