THE MAN FROM EARTH
2007, Richard Schenkman, USA, 94 min.
With David Lee Smith, John Billingsley
“Mysterious and subtle and convincing. . . devastatingly clever.”--Michael Janusonis, The Providence Journal
Based on cult science fiction writer Jerome Bixby’s final work, THE MAN FROM EARTH expands on his seminal Star Trek episode “Requiem for Methuselah.” A puzzled posse of friends intercepts college professor John Oldman (Smith) in the act of sneaking out on a securely established life and tenured job without saying goodbye. An amiable Scotch-fueled inquisition around the fireplace turns spookily uncomfortable when John begins to weave an unbelievable tale of accidental immortality. A onetime caveman with a chameleon-like ability to adapt, he has roamed the earth for 14,000 years, moving on whenever his agelessness begins to raise questions. HD video. (BS)

(CSAK SZEX ES MAS SEMMI)
2005, Krisztina Goda, Hungary, 97 min.
With Judit Schell, Kata Dobó
“Bright, snappy.”--Eddie Cockrell, Variety
“A brainy romp. . . laced with deliriously smart dialogue.”--Duane Byrge, Hollywood Reporter
A thirty-something playwright goes out on a limb for the man she thinks is “the one” and ends up locked out on a balcony in her panties when the rat’s wife arrives. With her biological clock threatening to strike zero, Dora (Schell) schemes to get that longed-for baby-bump by placing a personal ad for a guy she plans to wring dry and discard. Meanwhile, her production of Dangerous Liaisons, riotously on the rocks at work, brings a love-hate relationship with a hunky rogue (Sandor Csanyi) looking to audition. In Hungarian with English subtitles. 35mm. (BS)
