Cinema of Prayoga: Indian Experimental Film

“Prayoga” loosely translates as “experiment” in Sanskrit. For nearly a century, filmmakers have drawn on India’s rich aesthetic traditions to craft radically original works. Despite the international popularity of Bollywood, however, the country’s “Cinema of Prayoga” remains largely unknown. This program, curated by Brad Butler and Karen Mirza, gathers together work from multiple generations to provide a rare glimpse into this history of India’s innovative independents. Various formats.
