World premiere!
Frank V. Ross in person!
QUIETLY ON BY
2005, Frank V. Ross, USA, 97 min.
With Anthony J. Baker, Danielle Ostrowski
Out of work, out of motivation, twenty-something Aaron lolls in his mother’s suburban house, going a little crazier by the day. His girlfriend bailed months ago, his sister brazenly raids his tackle-box stash of savings to buy pot from his best friend, and interest in life just seems to be draining away, except for Aaron’s increasingly stalker-like obsession with unreceptive Sara. Made on a budget of only $755, this strangely affecting digital feature is a window on the world of a slacker, shot with a you-are-there eye on angst in west-suburban Westmont. In DigiBeta video. (BS)
Director Frank V. Ross and members of the cast and crew will be present for audience discussion.
Saturday, September 10, 8:00 pm
Special Event!
MOULIN ROUGE
1952, John Huston, USA, 119 min.
With Jos Ferrer, Colette Marchand, Zsa Zsa Gabor
“The most vivacious and exciting illustration of bohemian Paris ever splashed upon the screen. . . Intoxicating.” -- Bosley Crowther, The New York Times
John Huston evokes the giddily decadent milieu of the Moulin Rouge, home of the cancan and natural habitat of the tortured artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, with a soaring excess and profound poignancy that makes this Oscar-winning film stand head and shoulders above its 2001 namesake. The sinuous lines and saturated colors of Toulouse-Lautrec’s seminal art nouveau posters for the dance hall were Huston’s inspiration. See the major exhibition Toulouse-Lautrec and Montmartre at The Art Institute of Chicago (through October 10, tickets at www.ticketmaster.com) and enjoy MOULIN ROUGE for an unforgettable journey into the heart of 1890s Paris. 35mm.
