PAN-O-MATIC: web site number 0001 will leverage the internet as a tool for investigating the ways in which our society defines and idealizes productivity and efficiency. Appropriating strategies currently used in advertising, popular lifestyle magazines and self-help publications, PAN-O-MATIC will explore the history and received notions of work versus leisure time with regards to westernized obsessions with maximization. The site will enlist subscribers and provide a wide range of services specializing in personal time-based evaluations. Weekly columns featuring guided exercises in productivity, efficiency stories from around the globe, and online, self-evaluations provide subscribers with the ability to create their own personal PAN-O-MATIC's and the option to have them spotlighted each month. PAN-O-MATIC, INC. began in 2000. The etymology of the name brand, PAN-O-MATIC, is derived from panoramic, connoting a far-reaching, all-embracing experience; and automatic, suggesting involuntary, machine-driven, and routine. By providing situations that question the ways in which we spend our time, PAN-O-MATIC hopes to "deliver the contemporary urbanite from irrationally demanding systems." |
