Three-Day Workshop: July 9, 10, 11

This summer, the Art Institute of Chicago is host to the internationally acclaimed exhibition, Impressionism, Fashion, and Modernity [4], which traces the growth of the modern fashion industry amidst the social and economic changes in the late 19th century in France. This three-day workshop will introduce participating teachers to strategies for making connections between art, fashion, and the social, political, and economic context of this highly charged moment of history. The program will kick off with a visit to the exhibition and use a collaborative approach to translate our experiences into exciting, interdisciplinary curriculum to use in the classroom. The workshop will also feature a studio component inspired by ideas and trends from DIY culture and its technology-based counterpart, the Makers movement, to help frame the workshop’s content within contemporary culture.
