Donating Art

Due to the volume of offers the Art Institute of Chicago receives, we require all proposed donations be submitted in writing. Please provide the following information by e-mail or mail:

• Your name and address
• The title of the artwork and the artist’s name
• Provenance (history of ownership)
• Description of the size and condition
• Photographs of the artwork

Your materials will be reviewed by the appropriate curatorial department. If the museum is interested in learning more about the donated artwork—or if the piece is not a good fit for our collection—you will be notified. Please note that due to storage limitations, we are not able to accept all donations of art.
