Mayor Richard and Maggie Daley School Studio Program

Mayor Richard and Maggie Daley School Studio Programs are two-hour experiences that pair a docent-led tour with a hands-on art-making activity, focused around a theme. Combination tour and studio programs are scheduled through the online student tour application and can be found under the title, Art from Many Places Tour and Studio.

Daley School Studio Programs are supported by the Woman’s Board of the Art Institute and JPMorgan Chase

Special Exhibitions

During the first half of the 20th century, the city of Chicago was shaped and reshaped by waves of migration and immigration as African Americans poured in from the South and newcomers arrived from Europe and Mexico. They Seek a City: Chicago and the Art of Migration, 1910-1950 is the first exhibition to focus on the art produced by the wonderfully diverse communities that made Chicago their home. Over 80 works primarily by southern- and foreign-born artists—many rarely seen by the museum’s audiences—come together for this look at the city’s rich art of migration, as Chicago became the polyglot, cosmopolitan place that it remains today.

General Introduction tours, American Art tours, and the Art from Many Places Tour and Studio programs for third–fifth grade students may include stops in this special exhibition. Please talk with your docent about including the exhibition on your museum visit when s/he calls or e-mails you two weeks in advance of your visit date.
