Leadership Advisory Committee

Leadership Advisory Committee

For over 20 years, the Leadership Advisory Committee (LAC) has provided counsel, new perspectives, and support to the Art Institute of Chicago on all matters relating to the engagement and advancement of African Americans in the life of the institution. The LAC has hosted programming welcoming artists such as David Adjaye, Eldzier Cortor, Ed Clark, Kara Walker, Steve McQueen, Dawoud Bey, Mickalene Thomas, Kerry James Marshall, Carrie Mae Weems, and Margaret Burroughs.

Established in 1994 with a grant from the Lila Wallace Reader's Digest Fund, the committee is comprised of African American community, business, and philanthropic leaders with the mission to promote and sustain diversity within the institution. The LAC believes diversity in vision, collections, exhibitions, staffing, and audience is critical to the future and well-being of all American cultural institutions, and it is committed to engaging the broadest and most diverse audience in support of this vision via marketing, development, and educational programming.
