Ultimate Art and Architecture Party for up to 40 

Mark Mamolen will host a party for up to 40 guests with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres from the Entertaining Company in his Edgar Miller residence in Old Town, the famed R. W. Glasner House. Heavily featured in the recent book Edgar Miller and the Handmade Home: Chicago's Forgotten Renaissance Man, this home is considered by most to be Edgar Miller's masterpiece. Its multiple levels are filled with a significant collection of Miller's work in a wide range of media, including painting, prints, textiles, drawings, and ceramics, not to mention spectacular stained-glass windows and wood carvings. It also contains wonderful pieces of 20th-century furniture, ceramics, and glass, including pieces by Gustav Stickley, Dirk van Erp, Teco, Fulper, Warren MacArthur, Walter von Nessen, and Walter Dorwin Teague.

Each lot will be offered for sale subject to the terms and conditions set forth below. By bidding at auction, the buyer and all bidders agree to be bound by these terms and conditions, as changed or supplemented as provided in this paragraph.

  1. The Art Institute of Chicago ("AIC") does not assume any risk, liability, or responsibility for any items offered at this auction.
  2. The Auction Donors may have his or her own terms and conditions that he or she requires of a donor. To the extent that any such terms or conditions were available in advance of the auction, AIC has endeavored to post such terms on the website promoting the auction and/or make such terms available at the auction. Notwithstanding the foregoing, any such terms or conditions are a matter between the Auction Donor and the Buyer only and do not involve the Art Institute of Chicago.
  3. All sales are final and all items are sold "AS-IS, WHERE-IS, AND WITH ALL FAULTS." AIC makes no guarantees, warranties, or representations, express or implied, of any kind or nature, with respect to the items or any Auction Donor's terms or conditions. In no event shall AIC be responsible for the correctness nor deemed to have made any representation or warranty of description, Auction Donor's terms or conditions, value, or condition of the property. No statement in any printed materials, online, or made at the sale, in the bill of sale, invoice, or elsewhere shall be deemed such a warranty or representation or an assumption of liability.
  4. The values of the items included in this auction were provided by the parties that donated the items for this event. AIC does not review or verify the accuracy of these values.
  5. Auction purchases are not treated as charitable contributions. As a result, the Art Institute of Chicago does not issue a receipt for a charitable contribution for auction purchases.
  6. Any item may be withdrawn from auction at any time prior to the offering of each lot. If a lot fails to meet its reserve price or for any other reason at any time prior to the actual sale without any liability.
  7. AIC has the sole right to settle disputed bids and to decide whether or not to re-offer the lot.
  8. The record of sale kept by AIC shall be conclusive in all respects.
  9. Payment must be made at the end of the sale. Personal checks and major credit cards are acceptable; cash will not be accepted. Experiences will not be scheduled until the Art Institute of Chicago has been paid in full.
  10. It is the Buyer's responsibility to arrange with the Auction Donor a date for the experience, such date not to be later than December 31, 2011, unless otherwise agreed to by both the Buyer and the Auction Donor.
