Japonisme: The Impact of Japanese Prints in 19th-Century Europe
April 21, 2007–October 1, 2007
This focused selection of prints and drawings presents late 19th-century Japonisme, demonstrating the impact of Japanese prints on avant-garde artists in Europe. Works by Pierre Bonnard, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Edouard Manet, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, August Lepere, and James McNeill Whistler will be juxtaposed to influential Japanese prints from the museum’s collection, including works by Utamaro, Hiroshige, and Hokusai.
