In Gallery 220A, a small but choice group of prints from the Dorothy Braude Edinburg collection and a sheet of studies by Nicolas Lancret reveal the fascination with which 18th-century France contemplated the “exotic” cultures of the East. In this period, the tremendous vogue for Chinese and Persian luxury goods ignited a burning curiosity about the people and lifestyles of Oriental cultures.
