De ou par René Magritte: Art in Belgium, 1920-1975
September 2, 2014–November 10, 2014
Ryerson and Burnham Libraries
Featuring books, periodicals and other materials, this exhibition explores Magritte’s Belgian cultural milieu, at once cosmopolitan and provincial, and the literary and artistic aspects of Surrealism in Belgium. Many of the artists working and living in Belgium during the early part of the 20th century collaborated on various projects, but were not considered a cohesive group or movement. Instead, key figures and groups emerged to form an interesting narrative, making connections with one another as well as with the Surrealists in Paris.
