Join us to learn about and test out curriculum materials designed to help teachers use the new French-language stops on the Art Institute of Chicago's audio tour. Launched this past July and supported by the Cultural Service at the Consulate General of France in Chicago, this addition to the museum's audio tour allows visitors to learn about forty late nineteenth century French artworks in French. Featured artworks include masterworks from the Art Institute's world-renowned Impressionist and Post-Impressionist collection, including paintings and sculpture by artists such as Renoir, Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Degas.

In order to encourage teachers of French to bring their students to the museum and to utilize this new resource, the Art Institute, the Cultural Service at Consulate General of France in Chicago, and the Alliance Française have collaborated in the production of thematic lesson plans and student worksheets built around these artworks and their respective French language descriptions from the audio tour. While these teaching materials have not yet been publicly released, this professional development session will provide a preview to participating teachers, allowing them to try out the materials with the audio tour in the museum galleries, and offer the opportunity to contribute critical feedback in the final stages of development. Further, participating teachers will be eligible to receive funding to offset the cost of renting the French-language audio tour for their students on a future visit to the Art Institute.
