Teacher Workshop: "Play, Pretend, and Dream—Caldecott Medal and Honor Books, 2010–2013"

October 26, 2013
9:00AM3:00PM
Ryan Education Center, Studio C
$50; 5 CPDUs

The exhibition Play, Pretend, and Dream: Caldecott Medal and Honor Books, 2010-2013 celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Caldecott Medal for children's book illustrators and features a single illustration from each of the 16 books that won the distinguished medal or honor award over the past four years. Join us for this full-day workshop as we view the exhibition and reflect upon the artist’s role in children’s picture book development. We will focus on the value of visual storytelling as we make connections to the Common Core Reading Standards’ emphasis on analyzing the structure of texts and evaluating content from diverse formats. The workshop will include a tour of the exhibition by the curator, an opportunity to make connections in the galleries, and a hands-on studio experience where participating educators will explore materials and techniques to create an illustration. Elementary classroom, language arts, and visual arts teachers are encouraged to attend this program. Registration costs include a copy of the 2013 Caldecott Award winning book, This is Not My Hat, written and illustrated by Jon Klassen.

This program has reached capacity and registration is now closed. For additional Teacher Workshops please visit the Teacher Programs Calendar.

Registration is required for this program.
