Teacher Workshop: "Art and Language: Visual Literacy and Foreign Language Learners"

April 5, 2014
Ryan Education Center, Studio C
$50; 5 CPDUs

Art and art museums offer rich opportunities for language development and expression in ways that stir curiosity and promote inquiry and creativity. This workshop explores how teachers can use visual art and the museum as powerful tools to help foreign language learners encounter language in dynamic ways, build vocabulary, and make rich cultural connections. Participants will learn and practice strategies for engaging with works of art in the museum galleries, sample activities to use in their classrooms, and collaborate with peers to develop connections across the curriculum. While the emphasis of this workshop will be on teaching foreign languages through the visual arts, this workshop is also applicable to teachers who work with ELLs.
