Sharing Migration Stories

Inspired by the exhibition They Seek a City: Chicago and the Art of Migration, 1910–1950, the Art Institute wants to hear your story of migration, past or present. 

To participate, visit the Art Institute's Ryan Education Center on Saturdays and Sundays in March from 11:00 to 2:00 and record your story in an interview session. To register in advance, contact Shahrazad Shareef at (312) 443-3750 or

You may also upload a photograph, write a story, create an image that describes your journey, or record a three- to five-minute video at  Whether it was last year or in the last century, every family has a story to tell.

The Art Institute is also giving away one exhibition catalogue for each week They Seek a City is on display. All participants who submit a story will have a chance to win!
