How do artists respond to the imperial aspirations of great nations? What roles did art and artists play in the civilizations of the ancient world? Explore these and other questions with lecturers and curators from the renowned Art Institute of Chicago, with original treasures of the art world serving as primary documents. Through expert talks, before-hours access to the museum and admission to special exhibitions, delve into the development of Classical, Asian, Mesoamerican and African kingdoms; the artist's response to the French Revolution, Napoleonic era and British colonialism; and the ideas and aesthetics of American expansionism, all while learning novel approaches to looking at, interpreting and discussing art.

The full program includes a five-night stay downtown at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel just steps from the museum, daily museum admission, private tours with the experts, admission to special exhibitions, and all meals catered with one dinner on your own to explore Chicago's many excellent restaurants.
