Join us to discuss the histories and personal stories of people affected by the humanitarian and political crises in Syria and the Middle East, as captured in drawings and embroidery by artist Mounira Al Solh for her exhibition I strongly believe in our right to be frivolous. Curator Hendrik Folkerts talks with Sarah Hunaidi, author and human rights activist, Wendy Pearlman, associate professor of political science, Northwestern University, and author of We Crossed a Bridge and It Trembled, and Hanin Ghaddar, Friedmann Visiting Fellow at the Washington Institute and longtime editor of NOW, Lebanon.

At the core of Mounira Al Solh’s exhibition I strongly believe in our right to be frivolous is a commitment to oral history and living archives, privileging personal stories of loss, conflict, and hope over mainstream narratives on the Syrian revolution and subsequent civil war. Collecting various voices that have captured the experience of mass-displacement and migration in artistic and scholarly projects, this panel is about building histories that continue to shift everyday.
