Lecture Series: Connecting with Contemporary—Pop Goes Pow!

July 9, 2015
Fullerton Hall
$8 members, $12 nonmembers

Are you curious about contemporary art?  Do you find it challenging or puzzling and want to learn more? Join us for four lectures that will trace the evolution of contemporary art using the Art Institute’s growing collection.

In this first session, we focus on Pop Art, which took the art world by surprise after the dominance of Abstract Expressionism. Works that drew from popular culture and commercial art seemed easy to digest but also as ephemeral as the trends that inspired them. Learn about the history, motivations, and experiences that led now iconic artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Ed Ruscha down a new highway.

Registration required—register today!

This is encore presentation of the first session. See all the sessions in this series.

Please note museum admission is not included in the nonmember ticket price. However, the Thursday sessions occur during the museum's free hours for IL residents. For more information, please call Member Services at (312) 499-4111.
