Are you curious about contemporary art?  Do you find it challenging or puzzling and want to learn more? Join us for four lectures that will trace the evolution of contemporary art using the Art Institute’s growing collection.

Bootsy’s Rubber Band brought the funk, and the art world danced to a beat that celebrated bodies in motion, and bodies at rest. Artists deeply affected and influenced by the HIV/AIDS crisis led audiences to consider the messy facts of life implicit in our birth, growth, and death. Robert Gober, Kiki Smith, Cindy Sherman, and Jean-Michel Basquiat became analogous to rock stars. It wasn’t the first time artists have been treated like celebrities, and it probably won’t be the last.
