Hendrik Folkerts, the Art Institute’s new Dittmer Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, discusses his previous projects—including the current international survey documenta 14 in Kassel, Germany, and Athens, Greece, as well as his curatorial work at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. In his new role, Folkerts works with the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art’s curatorial team to envision new exhibitions and performances, commission projects, and bring in new acquisitions. In keeping with the museum’s mission to be a multivocal space that is a home to the world’s diverse artistic traditions, Folkerts looks forward to working collaboratively with both internal departments and external partners to foster a trans-historical and transcultural point of view.
